X-Men Days of Future Past has barely finished its first week and rumors are already flying about the 2016 follow up. X-Men Apocalypse is slated for Memorial Day Weekend of 2016. The movie will feature the newest villain to take up the challenge of facing the X-Men: Apocalypse.
Fans got their first glimpse of the new villain and cannot wait for more. Apocalypse was featured in the closing credits scene in Days of Future Past. The scene showed crowds of people chanting En Sabah Nur, which means the first one. Apocalypse is rumored to be the first mutant in history and seems to have the ability to change matter. It appeared that he was building the great pyramids just by using his power. There must also be some way that Apocalypse can live for millennia because there is a lot of history between ancient Egypt and the time of the X-Men.
One of the major rumors is that the cast from First Class will be back for the next adventure and that some of the original cast will return as well. How can people from both casts be involved in the same movie? That is an interesting question and there are a couple of possibilities.
Days of Future Past was built on the premise of time travel. It would make sense that there would be some way for the X-Men to travel into the past and be forced to face the powerful mutant. Time travel always makes things interesting and it is a comic book movie, so anything is possible. The movie would need to add some time traveling characters such as Rachel Summers to make such a move a reality. Of course, time travel was a major part of Days of Future Past and likely not going to be a driving force of a second movie. Too much of a good thing could kill the X-Men franchise.
Two Time Periods
Another potential plot line could be that Apocalypse is fought by the characters of the First Class time and then fought again by the X-Men of the future time. This is indeed a possibility, especially figuring that Apocalypse is basically immortal. The first group from First Class fights and stops Apocalypse in their time period but something happens and Apocalypse returns for a second round twenty to thirty years later. The future team of X-Men would be forced to fight Apocalypse again.
A third possibility and probably the most likely is that the past scenes are flashbacks for one of the characters of First Class. Some development makes them remember fighting the ageless Apocalypse and they give details about the past that take the form of flashbacks. The X-Men of the future are fighting Apocalypse with the experience of members of First Class. This could be very interesting.
No matter how the characters align for the next X-men film, it will prove to be another great adventure. The movie is scheduled to be released two years from now and casting is underway with the announcement that Channing Tatum has been cast for the hero Gambit. The next X-Men movie could pave the way for future expansion of the X-men franchise. Fans will be eagerly awaiting rumors and news about the coming of Apocalypse.
