Colorado Springs and surrounding mountain towns are not lacking in charm or great places to relax your body and mind and enjoy great company with great wine. Here are a few I have discovered:
Swirl Wine Bar – Manitou Springs, Colorado. With a great mountain spirit that is felt right when you walk in, and smiles to greet you as you pass through the rustic and charming little bar, elements of both comfort and class are discovered in famously hip Colorado style. I got to visit my favorite little town of Manitou Springs and hang out at Swirl Wine Bar and meet old friends at a small reunion here. This is a very unique and friendly establishment; not only was their House Red out of this world, but their selection of food to nibble on while happily conversing was just as delightful.
2South Food & Wine – Old Colorado City, Colorado. This locale is at 2 South 25th Street in Old Colorado City, and the address namesake 2South Food & Wine Bar has a steady reputation throughout the Colorado Springs region for being a popular and mountain chic gathering spot to wine and dine. I perused the website Urban Spoon, and while there are a few mixed reviews for 2South Food & Wine Bar, the majority of reviews are very positive and emphasize the excellent atmosphere of the place, their great selection of wine and spirits, the interesting conversations that flow every night, and mentioned more than once, the infamous Grilled Cheese entrée. Reservations highly recommended.
Rico’s Café & Wine Bar – Colorado Springs, Colorado. The Poor Richards enterprise in downtown Colorado Springs is home to Rico’s Café & Wine Bar, a great little spot to visit day or night. For wine connoisseurs, an afternoon or evening visit would be grand. They offer several wine varieties and even gluten-free beer. Adjacent to the bar is Poor Richards Book Store which has been a fixture in Colorado Springs for years and is a great place to browse and shop for anyone of any age. Every Thursday evening at Rico’s, John Wise and Susan Rissman perform a mix of Jazz, Reggae, Blues and Island Blues.
The Wines of Colorado – Cascade, Colorado. Travel a few more miles west via Ute Pass on Highway 24 past Manitou Springs and you arrive in the tiny mountain town of Cascade. The Wines of Colorado will provide you with free wine-tasting opportunities that showcase great Colorado wines and dining near a beautiful mountain stream setting. After trying their specialty Buffalo Wine Burger, visit the gift shop and take home your favorite bottles of wine for a rainy day or special occasion and other great Colorado products or knick-knacks that tickle your fancy.
