Product Description: Pizza Hut pizza with cheese, marinara sauce, ham and pineapple. I ordered this when we were at our local Pizza Hut this past weekend.
Review: Pizza Hut was actually a last-second decision this past weekend and, as a result, my wife and I really didn’t know what we were in the mood for when we got there. Ultimately, knowing we were on a tighter budget than normal, we decided to split a pizza and, since we hadn’t tried it before, settled on Pizza Hut’s Hawaiian Luau Pizza. Overall, I have to say it was better than expected.
The one thing that really impressed me about this pizza had to be the quantity of pineapple on it. My wife and I both love pineapple (especially when it is cooked) and always appreciate it when restaurants don’t skimp on the pizza toppings (mostly because we both like to pick the toppings off of the pizza as our way of claiming a slice). There wasn’t quite as much ham on the pizza. However, there was just enough to compliment the pineapple and give the pizza a somewhat unique taste. In fact, even our youngest daughter seemed to like it when she tried a bite.
My only real complaint about this particular pizza would be the decision to use marinara sauce. While not terrible, I do think the pizza would have been better with some sort of white sauce instead. In fact, I think the only reason we enjoyed the pizza as much as we did was because my wife made sure to order it with minimal sauce. Had the cooks used the amount of sauce they usually do, I don’t think it would have been nearly as good because the spices in the sauce would have overpowered the ham and pineapple a bit too much.
Final Opinion: This is a somewhat unique Pizza Hut menu item that I was glad I ordered. As I said before, it would have been better with a white sauce. However, if you order it with a minimal amount of marinara sauce, it is worth trying. It is definitely a pizza I would consider ordering again.
