Product Description: One-pound package of tilapia fillets (four fillets in all) from the Our Family brand. I purchased this for around $4 at one of our local grocery stores a couple weeks ago.
Review: My wife and I don’t eat a lot of fish. However, we both like tilapia and, because of that, I do try to buy it whenever I find it on sale. That’s why, when I saw the one-pound package from the Our Family brand, I decided to pick it up. And, eventually, I did finally get around to making it for dinner.
My biggest attraction to this particular brand was definitely the price. The fillets were less than $1 each and, unlike some other brands, weren’t too bad in terms of size. I especially liked the fact the fillets, while bagged together, were wrapped separately. That allowed me to make them as one meal or as four separate meals; depending on how hungry we were (I ended up making them all at once).
As far as taste goes, I didn’t have any complaints. They weren’t anything special and tasted like pretty much every other tilapia fillet I have purchased. But, again, they were affordable and, because of that, they really didn’t need to be anything special. They just needed to taste average.
My biggest complaint about this brand was the fact the fillets had a few too many bones that were missed. I had a total of two fillets and found three bones. And, I believe my wife found one or two in her fillets. Granted, I’ve seen missed bones in other brands too, including some that were more expensive. But, the quantity was definitely higher with this brand and I was glad my daughters weren’t eating them.
Final Opinion: As I said before, these aren’t anything special and the only thing that really makes them worth buying is the price. Mostly because of the bones I found the first time trying these, I would recommend a different brand if there isn’t that much difference in price.
