Product Description: Chicken-flavored fettuccine pasta from the Marie Callender’s brand. I purchased a package of this yesterday for $1.79.
Review: I decided to make chicken for dinner last night and, since I had to go to the store anyway, decided to look for something a bit different as a side dish. I ended up picking out the Marie Callender’s Chicken Flavored Easy Sides both because it was something I hadn’t tried before and because it was affordable.
My biggest concern when purchasing this product was the fact you have to add water to it. The bag looks a bit flimsy and I thought, for sure, it would tip over in my microwave once I added the water. Surprisingly, that didn’t happen. However, to be perfectly honest, I think I still would have that concern each and every time I used one of these.
Other than that, cooking the product was pretty easy. The pasta boils right in the bag and, after cooking it for four minutes and letting it sit for a couple more, it was ready to eat. I like convenience and it doesn’t get much more convenient than that. In fact, it was the easiest thing I cooked last night.
As far as taste goes, I thought the pasta was decent. It was obviously something that came out of a bag and the sauce didn’t thicken as much as expected. But, compared to many comparable items, including quite a few that were more expensive, the flavor (and overall quality in general) was acceptable. It was a nice compliment to our chicken legs.
Another thing that impressed me about this product was the quantity. I bought two packages because I thought I would need the second one. As it turns out, one package was plenty. We didn’t have any leftovers. But, we had enough for that meal.
Final Opinion: Yes, there are side dishes out there that offer quite a bit more quality. However, considering this product cost less than $2, I thought the quality was more than acceptable and would recommend it to anyone looking for an affordable side dish.
