Product Description: Sour cream and onion flavored French fries from Wal-mart’s Great Value Brand. I bought a bag of these for $1.50.
Review: I had to run to Wal-mart last night to pick up my new glasses from their vision center. Since my wife and I didn’t have anything planned for dinner, I decided to pick up something. Ultimately, I settled on chicken from their deli and, needing something to go with it, ended up buying a bag of Great Value Super Crunch Sour Cream and Onion French Fries.
There were two reasons for this particular purchase. The first was the $1.50 price. Since I didn’t get paid until today, I was on a tight shopping budget and the smaller price made it much easier to remain under that budget.
The other reason I purchased this product was the sour cream and onion flavor itself. It sounded like it would be something different from what we usually purchase and, since both of my daughters like sour cream and onion potato chips; I knew they would eat them without a fight. As it turns out, the French fries met my expectations.
I ended up making these in the oven and, while they did fall short of the “super crunch” mentioned on the bag, I thought the fries were pretty crispy. If nothing else, they were crunchier than some other brands we’ve purchased, including quite a few that were considerably more expensive.
As far as taste goes, the fries were excellent. There was a nice, subtle sour cream and onion flavor on the fries. It was enough to give them a somewhat unique taste while, at the same time, wasn’t anything that was overpowering (something I was a bit concerned about when I purchased these). Everyone in the family enjoyed the flavor.
Final Opinion: This was actually a pretty decent product for a good price. If you are looking for something that is a bit different and affordable, I would recommend it.
