Product Description: Smoked string cheese from the Dairy Source brand. I bought a stick of this at our local Kwik Trip store for 50 cents earlier today.
Review: I’ve been trying to cut back on some of my bad eating habits lately and that includes not buying cheeseburgers and other hot sandwiches from the Kwik Trip up the street from work. So, when I was in the mood for a snack earlier today, I visited their dairy section instead and picked up a couple sticks of this string cheese.
I have never had smoked string cheese before and wasn’t really sure what to expect from it. Overall, I have to say I was kind of disappointed by it. The cheese, overall, wasn’t terrible. In fact, I thought it was as good as some of the more expensive brands of string cheese. However, there really wasn’t anything special about it.
When I purchased this, I naturally assumed it would have a smoked flavor to it. In fact, that was one of the things that caught my attention. But, when I ate this cheese, I really couldn’t taste much of a difference between the smoked variety and a normal stick of string cheese. OK, to be fair, there were a couple times when I thought I could taste a smoky flavor. However, it was so faint, I honestly couldn’t tell if I really was tasting something or just imagining it.
In fact, the only noticeable difference was the smell. When I opened the package, I could definitely detect a smoky odor. That, unfortunately, did not transfer over to the taste part of it. Again, it was still decent tasting and, ultimately, I didn’t regret purchasing this product. It just wasn’t what I was expecting it to be.
Final Opinion: As I mentioned before, as far as string cheese goes, this brand was as good as plenty of other, more expensive brands. And, I think this product is something I would buy again. However, if you see this item at your store, don’t expect it to be anything that is overly different or memorable.
