Clairol Shimmer Lights Conditioning shampoo is a protein enriched shampoo that is said to refresh the color of highlights, tone down brassiness, and make hair shiny after washing. I purchased this product for keeping my highlights refreshed as well as toning down the brassiness of them.
The shampoo comes in a purple bottle and the color of the shampoo itself is purple. Sometimes the purple color ends up on my shower curtain or tub and if it dries, it is kind of hard to wash off. I use about a quarter size of it to shampoo my hair with. My hair is long, down to the middle of my back and it is highlighted. After blow drying my hair, my highlights do seem to look a bit refreshed. I do not notice a huge difference in my highlights after using this shampoo, but there is somewhat of a difference. The trick is to keep the shampoo on my hair while washing it for a full five minutes to let it soak in and do the job.
One thing I do not like about this shampoo is the scent of it. To me, it does not have a pleasant scent. Another thing that I do not like is that I feel that my hair is more tangled after washing with this shampoo. Lastly, this shampoo seems to dry my out hair pretty bad if I use it often, so I only use it occasionally, just to refresh my highlights when they are starting to fade.
There does seem to be a bit of shine to my hair after using this shampoo. It is not very noticeable to me, but it has some shine, which is better than none at all. I would say that this shampoo does work at brightening up faded highlights. Also, it does not leave a residue like other shampoos I have used. An 8 oz bottle costs me around $8 at Sally’s Beauty Supply shop. I would recommend this shampoo to those with highlighted hair who would like to keep them looking fresher between coloring appointments.
