COMMENTARY | It seems that Rep. Alan Grayson, D-Florida has been accused of conducting his own personal war on women by none other than his estranged wife, who accuses him of physically assaulting her, according to the Orlando Sentinel.
“A judge has granted a temporary protective injunction against U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson after his wife filed paperwork accusing the Orlando congressman of shoving and injuring her during an incident this past weekend.
“Lolita Grayson’s petition for the injunction, dated Monday, says her husband pushed her against a door, causing her to fall to the ground, during a confrontation Saturday at their home on Oak Park Road near Windermere.”
Naturally this accusation has elicited a response.
“In the statement released by his office, Alan Grayson said his wife initiated the violence.
“‘Sadly, it was Ms. Grayson who physically attacked the Congressman as he attempted to visit with his children. He did not respond to Ms. Grayson’s violent assault,’ the statement said.
“It added that Lolita Grayson has become “increasingly erratic” since filing for divorce, and her husband ‘is deeply concerned by her recent behavior and is profoundly pained by her accusations.'”
Grayson first won fame in 2009 when, on the floor of the House, he accused Republicans of wanting sick people to “die quickly.” He had won a House seat in 2008, lost it in 2010, and won it back in 2012. He is currently involved in a tough reelection fight with a number of challengers, both Republicans and Democrats.
The last thing Grayson needs is to be mired in an acrimonious divorce with accusations of domestic violence swirling about. While the mainstream media will try to cover for him to some extent, the nastiness of the breakup is likely to be off putting, especially to female voters. It certainly does not help that he is also accused to telling his wife that she would “receive nothing” in the divorce settlement and would be “left in the gutter” in front of their children.
One guesses in a year that is going to favor Republicans anyway, Grayson is about to flame out once again, just as he did in 2010. Hopefully this time he will stay gone from public life and try to deal with his anger management issues.
