For many it’s a difficult decision to choose either to rent or buy a home. Here are my reasons for wanting to do each one.
Reasons to Rent:
1. Things can be fixed fast and easily, most of the time.
When I was renting in my apartment, if something broke I didn’t have to worry about it too much if it wasn’t my fault, because it would be handled by the maintenance crew. If you are buying and/or own your own place you have to fix, or pay for it to be fixed, anything that breaks.
2. May be a safer place to leave when you travel.
Depending on how safe your surroundings are, it might actually be safer to travel when renting. When I was living in my apartment, the general area around it was filled with people that regularly went out for work and other things. This means neighbors were constantly looking around my home so possible thieves didn’t know who was home or not. To me that made it a bit more safer.
At the apartment I was living it it came with free water and trash. This meant I was saving money on these bills that would have otherwise would have cost me money. Some rental places, and not just apartments, offer free utilities which is a great perk from renting.
Reasons to Buy:
1. You can do whatever you want to the walls.
One of the things that I didn’t like while renting was that I couldn’t hang up pictures or paint the walls. Buying lets you remodel the inside to your specific taste. You get to do literally what you want when you own the walls.
2. Peace and quiet.
The number one thing that I hated when renting was the noise. I could hear my neighbors through the walls very easily. I could also hear cars coming and going all night long since apartments have many people meaning people are constantly coming and going. If you decide to buy a house instead of renting an apartment you’ll notice how much peace and quiet you’ll gain.
3. Pet friendly.
Unfortunately many rentals don’t allow pets. This is hard for pet lovers. If you buy your own place you can decide what animal you want and how many of them that you want without having to worry about paying any pet deposits. Having a bunny myself has made it difficult in finding a place to rent as many places that do allow cats and dogs don’t allow bunnies.
