When the one-year anniversary of someone’s death comes and goes, many people will take time to remember that special person that is still in their hearts. Before June 12, 2013, Jason Leffler was living his dream of racing, taking care of his son Charlie Dean, and spending time with his girlfriend Julianna Patterson. Everyone was shocked when Jason lost his life in a Sprint Car accident. In just a blink of an eye, Jason’s life was taken too soon. The one-year anniversary of Jason’s passing came quickly. Race fans and everyone that knew Jason still remember that heartbreaking, emotional day as if it was yesterday. One year later, we should take time to remember the memories of him.
I have thought about June 12, 2013 many times. I turned on the morning news and I saw the heartbreaking news, Jason died in a Sprint Car accident. I never met Jason Leffler, I wish I could have met him and experienced his wonderful attitude on life. I loved seeing his cheerful personality every time a reporter interviewed him on TV. Jason Leffler enjoyed life in racing and he loved his family. One year later, I asked race fans on social media to share their memories of Jason.
“He was nice when I met him. He asked me about my college plans and told me to make my dreams come true in NASCAR. He was an amazing guy.”— Nicole Brumm.
“I remember when he was on NBS 24/7.”— Becky Wright.
“I met him at Lincoln Speedway. He was a nice person. He signed autographs and took time for young fans. He is still missed.” — Jamie Coyle.
In the morning of June 12, 2014 (the one-year anniversary of Jason’s passing), I logged into my Twitter account and saw lefturn was trending. I thought that was amazing to see everyone tweeting in memory of him. The racing community is incredible.
One year has past and the racing world is still in disbelief. Many people are thinking about Charlie Dean since he lost his dad. I am sure Jason’s girlfriend Julianna will see Charlie Dean in the future and tell him stories about how incredible his dad was. Everyone should keep Jason’s memory alive. Keep Jason’s son, Jason’s girlfriend, and the rest of his family in your thoughts and prayers. Jason is gone, but everyone will always remember Jason “Lefturn” Leffler.
