As a movie patron, a paying movie patron, there is something I’m tired of actors in films using, and that’s the Lord, my Gods name in vain. Also in day to day life. It may be because I’m a Christian that I’m more sensitive to it, I don’t know. I consider myself Christian, not religious. Some people may not think twice about a curse word, but it may be greatly offensive to the person next to you. You never really know what the person next to you is going through in their life.
I have seen it time and again, a character in a movie say they are religious and the in the next scene curse God and his good name. It’s frankly insulting, and there have been times I’ve gotten up and left the theater as well. I see interviews with actors talking about their faith, then be cast in films where they use Gods name in vain as well. It just seems to me that if you proclaim, publicly that you have a faith and belief system, that you are not going to turn your back on that for a big paycheck and go against what your true beliefs are, otherwise it just shows you’re a fake, and have a price and can bought into saying whatever the highest bidder will pay you to say. I’m also an actor, and I have either turned down roles, or requested to not say certain words I was not comfortable with. I have been very fortunate to never lose as a result of this.
In real life I have Jewish people I know, who do not believe in Jesus Christ, but they will openly, and without hesitation use his name as a curse word without even thinking twice about it. Hollywood and people in our real world need to start putting serious consideration into the words that come out of their mouths in order to not offend others.
We just all need to learn to be more considerate of the people around us. The world is getting smaller, and it’s a melting pot and we’re in this together, like it, or not. We are responsible for the words that come out of our mouths and it’s very true that lose lips sink ships
