O.k., with the whole sexual harassment in the workplace topic kept firmly in mind, there is a dilemma for many single men and women at work. We have all had moments where someone at work may have passed by leaving a certain perfume or cologne lingering in the air with us while we were diligently trying to pay attention to the task at hand. Maybe a co-worker seems to be talking to you more than usual, smiling at you, or talking about you to others. So, what do you do if they seem like someone you would date if you met them “out in the world”?
What Could It Hurt?
Some people would think that there is no better place to get to know someone than at work. You are around them all day and more than likely get the chance to talk to them often. The two of you will be eating lunch together, possibly the same food even. So, do you take the initiative and see if he or she might want to go out to a movie sometime?
On the other hand, what if things did not work out. Would it just end as the two of you continue to have your normal days at work and still be able to talk to each other just fine? Probably not. If you are wondering whether or not you should take things to a more social and intimate level with a co-worker there are a few things You should probably consider before doing so:
1. Is he/she really your type or do they just seem interesting it at the boring old workplace?
2. If you guys do hit it off, will it effect your performances at work?
3. If you guys go out and the relationship ends up nasty will you still be able to just live and let live for the sake of getting along at work?
4. Are you willing to have to talk to your supervisor or boss if the word gets around to them that the two of you are dating? How will it reflect on your character at work?
So, the mystery still remains a mystery. However, when in doubt, think things through thoroughly before actually acting on what may seem like your desire. It may cost you your reputation, a friendship with a fellow employee, or even your job. Then again, it may be the best thing that ever happened in your lives.
