Speed Kills, Especially if He’s Wearing Jersey #10
I’d love for anybody who has a negative opinion about DJax to say what they have to say straight to his face. That is, if you can catch him.
Recently, when I watched my beloved Redskins play Philly, I always hoped jersey #10 had some minor cramp or stomach bug that temporarily kept him off the field, because his speed always killed us. But Noooooo! There he was, clad in his green, white, silver and black, ready to turn on the afterburners and use that supersonic speed to blast past anybody wearing a different colored jersey.
Welcome to DC DJax, and Jersey #10 Is Out
Since DJax signed, we now have him for at least a few years of total chaos when some poor soul tries to tackle him. He wore #10 in Philly, so what number will he wear in DC? RG III wears #10, so that’s out.
The Redskins have a long list of stellar players who have been part of their great tradition, and the jersey numbers they wore are as sacred as the deeds they performed on the field.
The Best Number to Wear Is the One That Says Nothing
There are a few numbers DJax could wear, but I think the best one would be double zero (yes, “00”). Why? Because he just started a clean slate with the Redskins. He has a new identity which could reestablish himself. I also think 00 says a lot about speed. I know Jim Otto wore 00 for the Raiders, but that’s different.
I think it would be hilarious if DJax scored on a long bomb or kick return, and the defender turned to the Ref and asked, “What number was that rocket ship?” And the Ref would shrug his shoulders and say, “I don’t know. All I saw were zeros.”
