You’re all ready for a BIG night out on the town. Your hair is carefully styled. Your eyes are bright and flashy. Your outfit and shoes are the kiss of the gods! Now for the finishing touch! What shade of red lipstick will show the world, I am here, and will wrap up my overall mood in a nice neat little package?
Sometimes the redder the better, but honestly, and as much as we would like to, we don’t all look so hot wearing bright red lipstick. It’s best to not only consider the color combination of our attire, but very important to consider our own natural skin tone, as well as, our hair and eye colorings. A very bright red might look good on someone with dark raven hair and big dark eyes, but may not be the right choice for those with blond, red or auburn hair and lighter colored eyes or fair skin.
Experimenting with colors has always been a big advantage in my world. I have dark brown hair, brown eyes and my skin is medium toned. I have a tendency to lean towards plum shades to keep my appearance warm particularly in evening settings. My eyes are not large, and I wear framed glasses most of the time, so bright reds have a tendency to take over, and all you can see when I walk into the room are lips! Not the effect I want to impress on the universe, so I use more plum or wine and burgundy shades to make my statement in social settings.
I find that not only I, but most of the women I know, prefer to just use the lipstick as it is to apply it (no brushes or fingers). I typically apply it from the middle of my upper and lower lips out to each side to be sure and follow the shape of my mouth. I also find that it is very helpful to use a lip liner first which gives me a fuller look when finished, but also serves as a good guide for staying in form with the shape of my lips. If you forget to use the liner first, no problem! You can add it afterwards and still have the same full and defining result! Just remember to smack your lips together a couple of times and you’re ready to take on the world!
