When we got our dog, Rosie, I was really unsure about crate training. I have never done it before, but heard good things about it. We decided to try it and it was the best decision we have ever made. When we got our other dog Ryder, we put him in a crate as well. We do separate crates for both but I know some people put two dogs in a bigger crate.
My puppies love their crates. Yes, the first few nights were hard because they do cry a bit, but puppies cry a bit no matter where you put them. They had a hard time with it, but that only lasted a couple of nights and it was worth it.
My dogs actually love their crates. They go in it on their own during the day to take a nap. They have a small bed plus a blanket in there. They enjoy going into their crate to get away from everyone in the house and this is a way for them to be by themselves. It is their safe place.
We love the crates for several reasons. I do work from home so they only go in it at night or when we will be gone for a bit to the store or something. I don’t leave them in there for long amounts of time while we are gone for 6 hours or more.
When your dog is in their crate, you know that they are just fine. They will not be getting into anything in the house. You will not have accidents either. For some reason a dog will not use the bathroom in their crate. Mine have only done it a couple of times as a puppy. They love it and see it as their bed so they do not want a mess in it.
The dogs being in their crate makes me feel safe. I know they are not going to eat anything they shouldn’t or tear up anything in the home. Personally I feel like crate training works great for my dogs and for me. I would never have it any other way.
