“A wise man in times of peace prepares for war.”
Lets be honest here. The Iron Man movie series is well done. Robert Downey Jr. rocked the movie, an it had an excellent storyline to boot. But for all this, the main draw to the movie was very likely the suit. It’s a dream device for many people: a suit that is equipped with the very best in military hardware, countless awesome gadgets, and technology that light-years in the future. To make a long story short the Iron Man armor is very, very cool.
So cool, in fact that the U.S. army is making one.
Well more than one actually. You see the U.S. military has recently commissioned the creation of a “Tactical Assault Light Operator Suit” or T.A.L.O.S. for short, to replace modern military body armor. Theoretically it should be bulletproof, have night vision, and even enhance strength. It’s still an early concept so don’t expect miracles just yet.
Let’s take a look into the basic design of each of these suits, and see what they currently are offering to our men and women in uniform.
1) An on board computer installed into each suit which has the capability to respond in real time to certain situations and give the soldier wearing it improved situational awareness.
2) The bullet proof plating will be created from a substance known as “liquid armor” which can from solid to liquid almost instantly through electrical signals with the flick of a button.
3) Finally the suit will posses a panel that will read the bodies heart rate, temperature, and hydration levels. The suit will also have some basic life support capabilities.
The American isn’t the first to be inspired by the Iron Man movies; they certainly have gone the farthest. The T.A.L.O.S. light armor suit represents a massive leap forward in military defense technology, and could very likely save many lives on the battlefield of tomorrow. What do you think?
