The Marvel Universe has a number of rare commodities that creates incredible comic book lore. Among these rare items are various metals that are used to create defenses and weapons for both heroes and villains. The following are some of the more unique metals by familiar characters.
Adamantum is composed of unique chemically created resins and steel. The resins bond with the steel and generate an ultra-hard and ultra-dense metal that is virtually indestructible. Adamantium is extremely expensive to produce and is therefore used in minimal qualities. Wolverine went through a process that coated his bones and claws with the rare metal and made him even stronger than before. The Avengers will deal with the reality of adamantium with their coming clash with Ultron. Ultron is an advanced robot with artificial intelligence, advanced weapons and adamantium armor.
Vibranium is the material used to create Captain America’s shield and has the ability to absorb sonic energy. Vibranium is an extraterrestrial metal discovered from meteorite fragments. One of the
deposits of vibranium is located in the fictional country of Wakanda, home of the Black Panther. Vibranium is also woven into the Black Panther’s uniform which makes it bulletproof. There is speculatation that the Avengers movie will have a scene from Wakanda over Hydra’s pursuit of vibranium.
Uru is an Asgardian metal that was used to create the Mjolnir, Thor’s mystical hammer. There is no source of the metal anywhere on earth and few things have ever been made from it. Uru has incredible strength and is often empowered by magic. Mjolnir has the ability to generate interdimensional portals and can allow Thor to travel back and forth from earth to Asgard.
Anti-metal is a form of Vibranium that acts in a reverse manner. Instead of repelling sonic energy, it produces it and has the ability to melt other forms of metal. One of the best known users of anti-metal is the Black Panther, whose anti-metal claws enable him to melt virtually any other metal on contact. Anti-metal has only one deposit in the world and its use is incredibly rare.
Not only will we see these metals in use in the Avengers and the X-Men but they are likely to appear in other marvel movies. These substances are used by both the good and the evil for various purposes. The more we see of the Marvel movie franchise, the more these substances will be utilized.
