When my kids were younger, I enjoyed throwing parties at home. Now that they’re older and want friends at the parties, I find it easier to host the birthday parties somewhere else. I don’t have to worry about cleaning my home both before and after the party. Plus someone else handles the entertainment for me. Before you choose your birthday party location, ask some questions to make sure it’s the best option.
What Space Is Available?
You want to know exactly what you’ll have access to at the party. Most venues that specialize in kids’ birthday parties have at least one party room. Find out how large that room is and how long you get the room. Determine what other features or entertainment options you’ll have access to during the party.
Also ask if other parties will be going on at the same time. Some birthday party places are good about giving your party an entire play room without anyone else. Others may schedule parties during open play time or book multiple parties at once with all kids sharing the space.
What Do I Get For My Money?
You don’t have to be so bold, but you do want to know what is included in the price. Most birthday party venues have different party packages depending on what you want. Some include just the basics: access to play areas and a party room. Others include food, beverages, favors and all necessary utensils for the party.
Also check on the limitation of guests. Most party packages are for a certain number of kids. You may have the option of paying extra if your guest list is larger. Others have a strict limit on the number of kids they allow.
Is Anything Forbidden?
Check on the restrictions of the party venue. Most have restrictions on what you can bring in to the facility. For example, many party venues don’t allow outside food except perhaps a birthday cake. If they do allow you to bring your own food, they may require that it comes from a licensed caterer.
Decorations and activities can also be an area with restrictions. Many venues don’t allow pinatas. Confetti is also a big no-no at many party spots. If you’re considering something that is messy or potentially damaging, check with the venue first to make sure it is allowed.
What Are My Responsibilities?
Many party venues handle the setup and cleanup for your party. Basically all you need to do is show up with whatever additional decorations or party supplies you bring. Check on timing. You can usually only get in a short time before the scheduled party to decorate and set up your supplies.
What Is Your Cancellation Policy?
Hopefully you won’t have to worry about cancelling or rescheduling the party, but you should find out how that works just in case something comes up. Many kids’ party venues require a deposit to hold the space for your party. Ask about the possibility of rescheduling if something comes up and the party can’t happen as planned. You may have a window of time when changes or cancellations are allowed. Find out your options just in case.
Now that you have the scoop on all of the potential kids’ birthday party venues, it’s time to make your final decision and book the venue. Don’t wait too long or your preferred date and time might get snatched up by another family.
