I recently saw the new Purex UltraPacks Laundry Detergent while shopping in the grocery store and decided to give them a try. I really love using them, and my clothes have never been cleaner.
What are They ?
I noticed they are making a lot of laundry detergents in these little packets that dissolve in water. They reminded me of the same thing that is made for dishwashers, but these are full of laundry detergent. The little packs are about the size of an ice cube and apparently you only need one of them for each load.
Each little pack contains double strength triple action Purex Free and Clear laundry detergent. The detergent contains no dye or perfume, and easily dissolve when they hit water.
You can also get these in a Mountain Breeze scented variety.
You can purchase them in three sizes. The smallest has 18 packs, the middle size has 26, and the largest has 36. I bought the smallest one to try it and after I decided I wanted to use them I bought the largest. The larger packs seem to cost less per load. I actually bought mine online and got a better price and free shipping by buying 4 packages at a time. Each package regardless of size comes in a ziplock bag that is just big enough to hold the laundry packs. I like that there is not a lot of wasted packaging with this product.
How to use them
These little packs of concentrated laundry detergent are to be placed in the bottom of your washer before you turn it on. So first you throw the pack in, then add dirty clothes and finally set your washer to on. Do not put the packs in the cups designed for liquid or powder detergent, the packs have to be inside the washer tub.
When handling the packs make sure that you do not have wet hands. Getting water into the container that holds the little packs would be a disaster as all of them would dissolve. Also keep the ziplock closed on the package to prevent water from getting in and ruining your ultrapacks.
One UltraPack seems to be enough for any size load. I have an extra large capacity washer and often use the extra large setting. One pack has seemed to work for me so far. Also The packs will dissolve no matter what temperature water you use. As long as you are using the right temperature for the laundry job the detergent should get your clothes clean. I usually wash in warm water.
How I like using them
I am thoroughly impressed with how well these work to clean my clothes. I have not used this particular version of laundry detergent in awhile, so I am not sure if they would work better than the same thing in a bottle, but they definitely work much better than what I was using which was another concentrated detergent in a little pump bottle, called Method.
I normally wash my clothes with a soak before they start washing but I have always done this. I think this laundry detergent is not only convenient and has less packaging waste but also works better than other free and clear laundry detergents that I have tried. Besides there being less waste of packaging the fact that it is concentrated and in a small package means that it takes up less room for shipping which is also better for the environment.
Final thoughts and rating
I am giving this product 5 stars and recommending it, because the Purex UltraPacks work great, and have less waste. I am into my second package of them, and I can not think of one negative things to say about them.
