Vintage keys add a great look to home decor. Even modern keys are suitable for many different projects. Get creative with your old keys with one of these projects.
Why not make your own custom necklace with an old key? It already has a hole in it so it is easy to put on a chain. Vintage keys look cute enough on their own as a necklace charm, but you can also pair it with other charms or decorations. You can also decorate the key itself with gemstones or other accents.
If you have several old keys, use them to make a custom wind chime. Start with a branch or other hanger for the chimes. Attach the keys to lengths of string. You can leave the keys plain or paint them. Hang the keys at varying lengths but close enough so they clank together.
Make the keys come full circle by turning them into a key holder. You’ll need to bend the skinny end of the key to a gentle curve to make it a hook. Nail the keys to a piece of wood so the curved end points out. Hang the key holder on the wall for use.
Decorative vintage keys with unique shapes work well as custom artwork. One option is to mount the keys inside a decorative frame on the wall. Another option is to fill a decorative glass jar with old keys and other artifacts. Or tie an old key around the neck of a decorative bottle with a ribbon.
Keep a copy of each key from every home you’ve lived in and turn them into a keepsake. Mount them on a photo mat with the address and dates you lived there. Or turn each key into a Christmas ornament. Tie a Christmas ribbon through the key along with a tag that has the address and dates. Or press the key into a piece of clay and let it harden so you have the imprint of the old keys.
