There is little as frustrating as cracking a cartomizer, and subsequently leaks e-liquid from the electronic cigarette. There are many things that can cause this, but some of the most common reasons can be easily avoided. It is important to remember that this is not caused by something toxic or potentially harmful in the liquid or the electronic cigarette, itself, but more likely is due to an incompatibility with the cartomizer, battery, or liquid being used.
Keep the resistance of the atomizer and the voltage of the battery in mind when buying and using electronic cigarettes. The resistance of the cartomizer relates to how easy the vapor is to inhale, while the voltage of the battery regards power and life. Using an easy-to-vape cartomizer with a low resistance, and a high-voltage battery, such as a 1300v, could make the device hotter, thus melting or cracking the cartomizer component. It makes the most sense to use plastic cartomizers with lower voltage batteries, or with more conducive e-liquids for optimal use.
Some e-liquids seem to stain and damage plastic cartomizers more frequently. The acidity of these juices are more suited to atomizers or cartomizers made of glass or metal. This damage can result in cracks and leaks, so users should be cognizant when choosing e-liquids for plastic tanks. Some of these flavors include:
- Other citrus
It also is prudent to clean plastic cartomizers with cotton swabs and rubbing alcohol between times filling with liquid. Not only will this remove any debris and leftover residue from e-liquids used, but will also remove any lingering aroma or flavor that could interfere with the new liquid being added. This will also go a long way toward removing any staining or discoloration that could impact plastic components when using dark or acidic e-liquid in the electronic cigarette.
Another prime reason for cracking, leaking, and damage to plastic cartomizers has to do with handling the device. Keeping an electronic cigarette in a pocket or purse may result in leaking or incidences of dropping the sensitive electronic cigarette. It is best practice to use a lanyard or a sling around the neck or affixed to a key ring, which will keep the cigarette close at hand, while also maintaining a vertical position to prevent juice from dripping out of the cartomizer during activity or movement. These can be purchased at venues for little cost.
