Hey, leprechauns! Guess what time it is? It’s shamrock o’clock! Time to drop your dates, and call your mates, turn those red hearts over and dye ’em green, since the wearing of it is certainly upon us again, and nothing says “Bless me, I’m Irish” quite like you and several dozen verdantly-attired friends. Friends who appreciate your mad party-throwing skills and are willing to stop at the store for ice if need be, and don’t pals like that deserve your best party yet?
Every host knows that thematically appropriate drinks are a given, and if you envision your guests hefting mugs during your festivities, make sure that vision includes a mug filled with green beer. If you need a hug–pinch or poke–make sure that it doesn’t, and if you’re leaning toward cocktails, the following drink recipe is just the ticket. Guaranteed to make the greenest of them lean after a few, a batch of frozen grasshoppers blended with equal parts light crème de cacao, green crème de menthe, a splash of cream, and plenty of ice creates a chillin’ mouthful. It’ll bring out the blarney in even the staunchest of ants, while a dollop of whipped atop this sipper sweetens the deal.
Decorations are appreciated, too, by the designated drivers, at least, and a selection of an American’s impression of what Irish folk might put on their heads is always a crowd pleaser, allowing party-goers to get hands-on without getting cheeky. Any party store can supply these paper bowlers, and as long as you’re there be sure to grab some streamers and balloons, noise-makers and favors, and an extra-large load of shenanigans!
No Saint Patrick’s Day shindig is complete without shenanigans. Sure, the fool in April gets all the press, but Paddy’s Day doings can exceed the pinching pale to the point those partaking land in an actual paddy wagon, but we’re not going to go that far. A scavenger hunt serves up a fine walkabout for the wandering sort, as does an Irish pub crawl, while a rousing game of Hide and Stop Seeking After a Cursory Once Over is an activity which level of exertion is completely up to the guest. For those who’d rather revel indoors, Hot Potato is an eminently suitable favorite, and simply everything about this convivial holiday lends itself to a round of: Truth or Dare. Now go get busy with your party preparing–I dare you.
