I am on my second vibrating Power Scoop Cat Litter Scoop. This thing is truly a great invention. When we moved to our new house I somehow lost this item in the move and recently found one on Amazon.com I love the new one every bit as much as I did my last one, and would not be without it.
The cat box scoop is a large scooper that is also deeper than normal. I think that the size of the scoop accounts for a big part of why I like it. It measures 6″ wide and 2″ deep (tapering toward the front). The scoop part is 5″ long. The handle measures 7.5″ for a total length of 12.5″ The handle itself is 2″ x 2″ so its a good size to hang on to. As the handle goes to toward the scooper it gets wider but the part you hold while scooping is 2″ x 2″
On the under side of the handle is a compartment that holds one AA battery that is included in your purchase. On the first one I got I lost the battery compartment door and the battery kept falling out so it might not be a bad idea if yours seems loose to put a piece of tape over it. The second unit does not seem loose so I have not had any problems with that.
The battery lasts a long time and only needs to be changed once a year at the most. I guess it depends on how often you scoop and I do scoop a couple times a week.
The bottom of the scooper has slots and holes for the litter to fall through. They seem to be just the right size for the scoopable litter that we use. Some scoops seem to have holes that are too big and some not big enough. The size of the holes really determines how fast you can sift and how clean you can get your litter.
Using the Power Scoop Vibrating Kitty Litter Scoop
Using this Scoop works the same as any other Scoop but after you lift up there is a button on the handle to press. I do not lift it up real high but leave it close the the surface so that I am not scattering litter about. The vibrator turns on when you press the button and you have to hold it down as long as you want it to vibrate. When you lift your finger it stops automatically.
The vibrating action is very mild and will not shake so violently as to break up the clumped litter but it will remove the excess litter in about a quarter of the time, without breaking your clumps or leaving any loose litter in the scoop.
There is not much of a learning curve to using the Power Scoop, it becomes second nature once you have done it a few times.
My Cat Litter Scooping Situation
Just to give you a frame of reference to the job I have to do with my cat litter pans, I only have one cat but he is a big guy so I have two pans. I have the largest and deepest pans I can buy so there is a lot of litter in them. This scooper works great for the size of the pan.
Even though I only have one cat he has to go a lot because I give him extra water in his food. He has a tendency toward getting urinary blockages and studies show that adding extra water helps prevent problems. I would agree with that since it is working for us. It does mean there is more to scoop out of the pan though so perhaps my one cat goes a little more than the average cat.
One thing that my cat does that is funny is that he goes pee in one pan and poop in the other. the Scoop works equally well for either type of messy scooping. We use Arm and Hammer Unscented Scoopable Cat Litter. One thing I would suggest is finding something to put your cat litter scoop in between uses. I used to put it in a small garbage can until I found a container that fits on the side of the cat pan. My new vibrating Cat litter scoop fits nicely in that container.
Cost / Value
I paid about $12 for my Vibrating Power Scoop. Yes this is more than you would pay for an average scoops but it was worth it to me since it makes a nasty job so much easier and efficient.
