News of plans to release a third chapter of the popular Captain America series has many fans seeing red, white and blue. The movie is in the scripting and planning stages and is set to do battle with Batman vs Superman in May 2016. One question that many Marvel fans are wondering about is which villain will come calling on Captain America? Here are some of the potential choices for villains in the next Captain America movie.
The Red Skull
The Red Skull could appear in the next Captain America movie. Johann Schmidt may not have been killed by the Tesseract in the first Captain America movie. One comic version has the Red Skull transported to the future through the energy displaced by the Cosmic Cube. Another version had a child of the Skull threaten the world using Hydra based weapons. Schmidt appeared multiple times through a variety of means to plague Captain America over the years.
Helmut Zemo was a scientist working with the Nazi’s during World War II. Zemo developed the chemical Compound X that dramatically slowed his aging process. He also was a weapons developer for the Nazi’s and created a prototype of the laser rifle. He would later make use of these and other weapons to make multiple attacks on Captain America. Zemo is an expert swordsman and highly skilled at hand to hand combat.
Crossbones is a henchman of the Red Skull who is an expert marksman and skilled fighter. Crossbones is also an expert assassin. He has tangled with Captain America on multiple occasions. It is Crossbones who will later assassinate Steve Rogers. An appearance by Crossbones could mean the end of Steve Rogers as Captain America.
Wolfgang Von Strucker
Wolfgang Von Strucker is the leader of Hydra. Hydra is the terrorist organization that was founded during World War II by the Red Skull. Hydra later infiltrated SHIELD and virtually destroyed the organization. Now Hydra will play some sort of role in the latest Avengers movie. Hydra has been an ongoing enemy of Captain America. Captain America may not face a single villain with Von Strucker but may have to do battle with an entire organization. Another chapter of the good captain battling Hydra could be plausible.
Advanced Idea Mechanics was an ongoing threat that Captain America faced. The organization was introduced in Iron Man 3 and could make a return to cause Rogers some serious trouble. AIM has multiple villains that flow out of the organization much like Hydra.
Steve Rogers was removed from the title Captain America and John Walker became the new Captain. The result is that the two became bitter rivals and fought off and on. In the end, Walker resigned from the duties of Captain America and allowed Rogers to resume the title. Walker would take the title U.S. Agent and become partners with Captain America. Could this character be in the next movie but replaced by Bucky Barnes, The Winter Soldier?
Whoever the villains are for the next installment of Captain America, one thing can be certain, the movie will be an action packed thrill ride. Captain America is scheduled for release in May 2016.
