The X-Men franchise is alive and well doing almost $111 million over Memorial Day Weekend. Days of Future Past scored with movie goers and kept most of the consistency with the original story. The future of the franchise seems to be headed for a showdown with the newest enemy Apocalypse. Fans got a brief glimpse of the new evil mutant at the close of Days of Future Past and anticipation is already building for a movie two years away.
The new venture has been slated to continue with the X-Men First Class characters and merge some characters from the future to give a similar feel to the Days of Future Past. The combination of these characters was an incredible success and many would like to see the trend continue. There are some characters who would add some additional depth to the Apocalypse story line. Here are some suggestions for new heroes for future X-Men films.
Cable (Nathan Summers)
One of the characters most needed for the Apocalypse story line is Cable. Cable is Nathan Summers, the son of Scott Summers (Cyclops) and Jean Grey. Nathan comes from the future to stop the madness created by Apocalypse and alter the future. The story is very similar to the Days of Future Past, which may be why it is not being considered. Cable would later form a team of mutants called X-Force to be a swift strike team to stop threats like Apocalypse.
Polaris (Lorna Dane)
Polaris is the daughter of Magneto and inherited all of his magnetic powers. Anything that Magneto can do Polaris has the ability to do. Polaris would be an incredible asset to the X-Men and a powerhouse in any fight. Polaris has not appeared in any of the X-Men films.
Sunfire (Shiro Yashada)
Sunfire is a mutant with the ability to control solar energy and produce nuclear level flames. Sunfire is the cousin to Mariko Yashada, Wolverine’s love interest in The Wolverine. Sunfire was first introduced in the X-Men when Charles Xavier summed a temporary team of international mutants together to save his original X-Men. Days of Future Past introduced the hero Sunspot who has similar abilities but is not nearly as strong as Sunfire, which makes the likelihood of Sunfire appearing on screen much less likely.
Rachel Summers (Phoenix II/ Marvel Girl II)
Rachel is the daughter of Scott Summers and Jean Grey who comes from a future where the events of Days of Future Past was not changed and the mutants are being hunted by Sentinels. Rachel taps the power of the Phoenix and travels back in time to find a way to change her own future. The story line could easily be adapted to handle the Apocalypse saga.
Domino (Neena Thurman)
Domino is a mercenary with incredible fighting skills and those skills are enhanced by her mutant power. She has the ability to change probability, which influences luck. The probability filed gives Domino good luck and the opponent bad luck. This may sound unusual but it allows Domino to strike an opponent with almost every attack and to dodge every attack directed at her.
The future of the X-Men series seems focused on developing new characters and new villains. These heroes could be good additions to the X-Men line up and future expansions of the franchise. X-Men Apocalypse comes to theaters in May 2016.
