Losing weight successfully takes a lot of hard work. However, instead of looking at this endeavor as losing weight, look at it as making a major lifestyle change. Years ago I successfully lost weight but it quickly came back because I returned to my old eating behavior. I was more excited about seeing the pounds come off than doing what was necessary to maintain it. Here are some tips to avoid on your weight loss journey.
Setting unrealistic goals – The weight didn’t come on overnight. Why would we expect it to come off in that amount of time? Slow and steady will win the race if you set your eyes on the ultimate prize.
Lacking confidence – Change your attitude and stay positive and focused. The more you stay on course the more confidence you will gain.
Naysayers and negativity – Block out the voices of those who berate your efforts and try to discourage you. Perhaps they need to lose weight too but haven’t done anything to address it for themselves. And by all means don’t put yourself down by wondering how you got so big in the first place. Address the problem and aim for the solution.
Eating habits – If you refuse to better monitor and gauge what you are eating then you probably aren’t serious enough to take on the challenge. Use a smaller plate. It’s the little things that will make the difference.
Physical activity – Exercise and proper food choices must work together to achieve your goal. It’s hard to do one without the other.
Journaling – This is the best way to actually see what you are eating on a regular basis. Be truthful in writing down everything you eat. In time you will see those “red flags” that may be hindering you.
Major setbacks – This could include the loss of a job, loved one, financial troubles or a major illness. Look at these situations as a temporary pause. But be determined to get back on track when emotionally and physically able.
Hollywood beauty – Looking at the Hollywood entertainers who seemingly are flawless in every way would be enough to discourage anyone. Don’t try imitating them. Be yourself.
Overly obsessed – While it’s good to be focused, don’t allow it to rule your every waking thoughts. It’s not necessary to weigh yourself every day. Don’t let it be the majority of your conversation when talking to people.
Laziness and procrastination – Just do it!! There’s no time like the present to make a positive change in your life. The time for excuses is over.
I wish you well on your journey and lifestyle change. I know you will be successful. The hardest part is just starting.
