Whether you are trying to spread the word about your blog, new book release, or boost sales on your novel that has been out for months, one really good way to get yourself noticed in a large group setting online is a blog hop. Blog Hops are a lot of fun, and are a great way to find blogs and friends you never would have found otherwise.
With all the benefits a blog hop has to offer, are there any disadvantages in joining one?
If you’ve joined a blog hop with dozens and dozens of other participants, reading all of the blogs can be quite a drain on your time. While it’s not mandatory that you have to visit every single blog listed on the sign up list, you should try to visit as many as you can. If you are a part of a hop with 60-70 participants in a hop that is four days long, that’s a lot of blogs to visit in each day.
Of course your blog isn’t going to be liked by all, and with a lack of time, some of the other hoppers won’t actually read your blog. In order to qualify for your giveaway, though, they will leave a general comment. You know the ones that they say they didn’t read a single word on your page and they could easily copy and paste into every single comment section of every single blog. Unfortunately, dealing with those general comments is a part of participation in a blog hop.
NOT YOUR TASTE
Unfortunately, another aspect of blog hops you have to deal with is when you come across a blog that has a subject matter you would otherwise never want to read. Certainly, when you are joining a blog hop you should look for ones that are hosted and participated by other authors in your genre. A Christian writer should never join a Paranormal or Erotic writer blog hop. But even if you are careful about which hops to join, sometimes you still will come across blogs that don’t interest you at all.
