When it comes to Pinterest I am the queen of screwing it up. As a Mom, it seems like our value these days is measured in how many things we can successfully attempt on Pinterest.
I’ve played the game, and I wave the white flag.
I have had many fails in this department, but here is one I wanted to highlight out of pure anger and fury. I hope you don’t attempt this project without realizing it is not worth it in so many ways.
The project was found on this pin http://www.pinterest.com/pin/275704808410098662/
The site boasted that doing this to your kids old toys can refresh the plastic furniture, roll around cars, and kids play kitchens with just a swish of cheap spray paint and a few hours at best. Here are the points where it, and I, failed miserably.
Supplies and cost
The reason most people do a Pinterest project is to have something home-made at a fraction of the cost. This is where this project fails the most.
The directions say you only need but a few cans of spray paint to cover a small surface. Oh so wrong. Take a look at the picture of the red chair I attempted to paint below. Using just one normal $5 can of spray paint, I barely covered the top of the chair. We own four chairs and a table. In the end to cover the entire set I wanted to “refresh” it would have cost more then $30 and a lot of heart ache. Good thing I like to quit while I am behind and threw in the towel after the first chair.
You’ll also notice from my photos that the paint started to drip and flake off the chair while I was painting it, and in the midst of drying. It looks worse then before I painted it. I wish I could unpaint it now because it looks so much worse then before attempting the project.
Not only is spray paint expensive a lot gets wasted in the process. The area around where I worked got some paint blown onto it, as well as some concrete. Perhaps this was my own failure in that I take too many short cuts and just want things done fast. Lesson learned.
In the end I really was disappointed at the low quality turn-out of this project. However it did teach me that I should just move on with my life and quit wasting time on Pinterest.
