Yes, mice are rodents but are different from rats. Mice have small rounded ears; very long tails and are small compared to rats. Therefore, mice usually enter people’s property from small tiny openings. Mice can live anyway. Mice live in the basement, attic, kitchen, boiler area and bushy yard to mention but a few. For this reason, having knowledge about mouse control can help you as well as save you money.
Green And Environmentally friendly Ways Of Controlling Mice From Your Home
Green ways or methods of controlling mice from your property are those ways that take precaution not destroy the environment. Applying these methods means you only target mice and not anything else. This in turn protects the environment, improves our living standards and saves us money. Here are some basic green ways of preventing mice from any property.
Please note that sanitation does not completely control mice but poor sanitation in fact makes the problem of mice worse. The good practice is to keep all food stored in areas where mice cannot enter. Throwing out garbage out of the house is another good thing to do. Keep all dishes clean. Keep the outside foundation clear as possible. For example, cut the yard so that there is no bush around the property. This eliminates places where mice find shelter. This in turn prevents harboring large number of mice around your property.
Do you remember cartoon “Tom and Jerry”? Some cats kill mice and mice will not live in a property where cats are. Keeping cats will help you in controlling mice. However, some mice take advantage of “mummy’s cat”. It is possible for mice to hide and feed on the same food you give to your cat. Also some cats do not kill mice. With that said, having a cat in your home is one way to control mice.
Close and seal holes
Mice do not use the main doors to enter your property. They instead enter your property through tiny holes and opening on your property. These tiny holes are usually on the bottom of the garage doors. Sometimes there are holes where the oil pipe protrudes from the wall, under the kitchen sink, boiler room areas. Closing or sealing holes will permanently control mice from your property.
Placing glue-boards in areas where there are mice droppings will likely catch mice. You know mice are very curious and playful. When they see glue-boards, they do not know that it’s glue on it. Do not place glue-boards in children room, pets’ area or areas where yourself will forget and step or touch. Hiring a pest control professional will save you time and transfer liability to the pest control company in case of anything.
Use Professional Mice traps
These are very effective. Professional mice traps are baited and un-baited. When un-baited, place them perpendicularly to the wall a long the sills in the basement. Also, place them in areas you see dropping.
The last method, which I do not advise and is not environmentally friendly, is Use Rodenticides. When placing rodenticides in your home, make sure pets and children cannot reach that area. Also, make sure that there is no other wildlife in that area. If placing rodenticides outside, you MUST follow the regulation. For example, you must place Rodenticides in a marked bait station, tags on it showing Environment Protection Agency (EPA) number, name of the rodenticides, company to method but a few.
