When it comes to receipts you may find yourself tossing them away just as I did in the past before I realized how much value they actually hold. I was infamous for losing receipts and not giving it a thought as it made it’s way into the closest trash bin. Now, I am much different with them and for good financial reason.
When my friend first told me to keep my receipt, I thought she was crazy. No way was I going to waste my time with the fine print on the back. Until she pointed out that each receipt has something different about it. After listening to her plea about how I could save ten dollars on my next twenty-five dollar purchase at our local Dollar General Store, I started considering what she was telling me had actual financial value to it.
So, I began looking at other receipts.
Those few moments I spared of my time to looking at the back of each of my receipts gave proof to holding five, ten and sometimes fifty dollars in savings to it (depending on the coupon). My local Kroger for example hosts coupons on the back of their receipts.
There is even a catchy saying per the advertising company who credits the marketing for coupons on the backs of Kroger receipts. “Does Register Tape Advertising work? It just did!” and it is quite catchy, I must say.
It caught this consumers attention. With that particular coupon, a company named El Rancho Grande in West Carollton, Ohio presents an offer for seven dollars off of one dinner when you purchase one at regular price. Can you say, Mexican for dinner please?
I also saved fifty-four dollars in coupons from manufacturer’s coupons from an ad with a QR code for RTUI (Register Tape Unlimited, LP) that sent me daily alerts for local coupons. That was also, for free.
Some coupons I’ve noticed however, hold a different kind of financial treasure. Take for example the one I kept from a local Dollar Tree. Instead of offering multiple coupons for different department stores, it offered a survey.
If at first you’re anything like me, you would wonder who actually has time for a survey? Well, when the pay-off is ten chances to $1,000.00 cash daily I would say, I have the time. This particular marketing company was smart because they not only give you a chance to call in the answers but you are able to scan the QR code with your smartphone to instantly take it then. A few moments of my time and I am ten chances closer to winning the money.
Now that I have began paying more attention to the back of my receipts, I am finding more coupons and savings than I had when I was just looking online or at the Sunday paper. So whether you are looking to save more money on a budget or just curious, take some time to glance at the back of your receipt before you toss it. You could be throwing money away you didn’t realize you had.
