Party favors for older kids are usually fairly easy. You can get an assortment of small trinkets and toys at party supply stores or discount stores. But toddlers require more consideration. Small parts and hard candy present a choking risk for little party guests. Buy special items just for the toddlers at the party that are safe and interesting for the age group.
Toddlers are old enough to grip crayons and do some basic scribbles. A coloring book with a package of crayons is an age-appropriate option for your young guests. Choose a coloring book with big pictures instead of very detailed pictures with lots of little spaces. They still probably aren’t old enough to color in the lines, but larger pictures are better suited to this age group. Pick up the larger sized crayons so the toddlers can grip them better.
One of my go-to options for young party guests is a rubber duck. You can find them in different themes to keep it interesting. You might even find ducks dressed up to match the theme. I’ve found ducks decorated like princesses, super heroes and Santa Claus. Not only can young kids play with the ducks in the tub, they can also chew on them at the party if they get bored.
Most parents don’t want their toddlers to fill up on sugar. Instead, choose a toddler-friendly snack that isn’t too high in sugar. You’ll find an assortment of toddler snacks near the baby food section. They include mashed fruits in pouches, applesauce, crackers and biscuit-type snacks. Use caution when choosing snacks for a toddler. Ask about food allergies or restrictions. Don’t choose anything that is hard or otherwise a choking hazard.
Toddlers love bubbles, so it makes sense to give them as a party favor for your young guests. Package up a bottle of bubbles and some bubble blowing wands. Some sidewalk chalk goes well with the bubbles for a complete outdoor play package.
Toddlers can be tough on books, but they also love the colorful pictures. To give a gift that will last, choose board books for the toddlers. They have thick pages that won’t rip like regular books. Choose a board book that relates to the theme of the party, or choose a classic kids book in board book form.
You don’t want to give a toddler a small bouncy ball that could be a choking hazard, but a large ball filled with air is the perfect toy for a toddler. If the party activities don’t interest the toddlers, they can always play with the balls at the party.
