Alternatives for pain relief
There are a number of alternatives for chronic pain:
- · Mind and body therapies
- · Acupuncture therapy
- · Chiropractic treatments
Mind and body therapy works with the idea of relaxing the mind and body. Yoga is a great mind and body relaxing exercise. It is an invasive alternative to pain relief. Many have found this technic to be quite relaxing by using a form of stretching and relaxing the body muscles.
Acupuncture is rather new to this country but has been use by the Chinese for hundreds of centuries. It also is invasive with the use of very thin needles that are placed at certain nerve and muscle points, which releases body chemicals that block pain.
Chiropractic treatment and massage therapy is used to realign the bones of the body. Picture if you will you are a puppet and there is a string attached to the top of your head. If your body is the right alignment your skeleton will all line up from your head to your feet. However, if, for example, your hips are out of alignment your body has shifted to one side or the other. This out of alignment is the cause of your pain. The chiropractor realigns your hips and the rest of the body will line up again.
I have found after a day of hiking, exercising, mopping the floor I have lower back and hip pain. My solution is to soak in a tub of hot water. I add a cup of Epsom salt and peppermint oil to hot water and that the answer to most of my aches and pains. A hot shower is good but I do not get the same effect I do from soaking.
