Every individual that is born in good or reasonable health, has an obligation to God, his self, her/his family and to the world to keep themselves in the best of health, physically, mentally, and spiritually. I used to say to all of my friends, if god wanted us to smoke cigarettes, he would have created us with stove pipes and chimneys on our heads. That was one of my little sayings then during my high school days.
Since those days, I have come to realize that it is our supreme privilege and our foremost obligation to ourselves and the whole world to keep our selves physically healthy, mentally alert, and morally straight. Not only for the people of today but for those who will be born into this world. I have discovered that our Bible, which I firmly believe is the infallible, inerrant word of God, supports this fact. We are charged to take care of our bodies, to proper and be in good health.
There are a few people in this world who are among the masses of people who believe in God but are ignorant when it comes to studying, doing, and keeping His word. Yet we are told we are not to live by bread alone but by every word that proceeded out of the mouth of God. Matthew 4:4. That being said, when you look at the people who are church goers, you wonder if they are taking care of their bodies according to the Word of God. We are obligated to do so because we are not our own, we have been bought with a price. We have been paid for with the precious blood of Jesus Christ. Living immoral, gluttonous, lazy, and ignorant lives is not good for self, your family, and it is not pleasing to God.
Drug abuse, illicit sex, letting our bodies become obese, and refusing to educate our minds also leads to spiritual waste. The sustaining of good health is a matter of the right intention and sound practice. That cannot be purchased in the cans and bottles sold at the Drugstores and Supermarkets. Only be practicing and following the Word of God.
This is your godly obligation. You can start doing it and following it today!
