Like a wedding reception, no two graduation parties are alike. While there are literally thousands of ideas and suggestions for graduation parties, if you can answer these few key questions now, you will save yourself many hours later trying to make decisions in store aisles. Here are a few suggestions:
The Tassel Is Worth the Hassle
How much time, energy, and money are you willing to spend on the event? While a child graduating is an emotional event for the parents as well as the student, it is better for the parents to sit down beforehand and make a rational decision on these things, rather than an emotional decision. How much prep time do you have to give? How many people are going to help you? How much money can you spend? Let this be your shopping guide for everything else.
Location, Location, Location
Making the decision of where you are going to have the graduation party eliminates much of the hassle. If the party is going to be indoors, let your budget determine your location, not the number of people that could potentially come. That’s what invitations are for. Do not be concerned with the opinions of those attending as much as you are concerned with the opinions of your child, the graduate. Let the tone of the party reflect the personality of your graduate. This is their day.
Keep it Simple
After taking the above into consideration, divide the party area into four quadrants. Let the first be the food service section where all of the hot and cold drinks and food are set out, along with condiments, plates, cups, ice and utensils. Let the second section be the eating section, with the tables and chairs arranged for easy access. Also have the tables peppered with graduation decorations. Let the third area be the party section, where people can congregate to talk, or dance if you have music or a DJ. And lastly, let the fourth quadrant be the celebration section, that honors the life of the graduate. The card box and gift table are there, as well as the cake table. Many also have a wall of fame, showing a wall full of pictures. Some choose to play a DVD with photos on it. Others do PowerPoint Presentations with pictures and music over a projection unit. Be both creative, yet simple, and you are sure to throw a memorable graduation party.
