The first bracket USAToday.com posted for users to download had the regions incorrectly laid out on the page. As you can see by the attached image, the East and West Regions are switched. For example: It is impossible for Arizona to play Florida in the Final Four; it would have to be in the Tournament Finals.
I really feel bad for people that used this bracket for their pools. I printed and used this bracket for a pool of 8 people, and after I discovered the discrepancy, I had to contact everyone in the pool and get them to ‘repick’ their Final Four teams….
I only had 8 brackets to change…. I feel bad for the people (if there are still mass amounts of people that use paper brackets) who had 50 brackets to keep track of.
USA Today corrected their bracket before the tournament actually started, but this original bracket error makes this “First Class” News and Sports organization look like a high school newspaper. A careless error like this would never happen at ESPN, CBS Sports, Yahoo Sports, etc. It’s these careless errors and lack of attention to detail why USAToday can’t compete with the Top 3-5 sports outlets.
