On Tuesday, February 25, 2014, award winning NY1 News anchor Cheryl Wills had a book signing. I was one of the guests invited to the event and waited with great anticipation to hear her discuss this book.
As a way to celebrate Black History month this year, she wanted to share the discovery of her story with the audience. In returned we celebrated and congratulated her for embracing and sharing a part of the narrative that has shaped historic influencers. All guests attending the event were able to purchase a copy of the book entitled “Die Free: A Heroic Family Tale.”
Cheryl was on hand to speak as well as personally autograph everyone’s copy of the book. I also spoke with her briefly. During her dynamic speech, she talked about her journey in conducting the research for the story. She also shared how the experience changed and influenced her as a professional woman in the world today. In fact, in discovering the truth behind her ancestors’ lives has resulted in her being an even stronger advocate for preserving and telling the stories of the future.
“Die Free: A Heroic Family Tale.”displays some of Cheryl’s personal pictures of her family and discusses the road map as to how her family came to be where they are today.
In attendance for the exclusive event were political figures, members of the press, and various other movers and shakers of New York City. For more information on the book or to purchase, visit the official website.
