If you live in the north Mississippi, north Alabama or south Tennessee area and you want to relive those nostalgic memories of an earlier, simpler time when you could sit back and watch the most recent blockbuster from the comfort of the front seat of your automobile; then you may have a drive ahead of you. While many drive-ins are becoming a thing of the past; you can at least find a few that haven’t closed due to the high cost of converting to digital film. Here are at least three drive-in’s still in operation today:
Iuka Drive-In Theater
Located at West Quitman Street, Iuka, MS the Iuka Drive-In is claimed to be the last currently operating drive-in in the state of Mississippi. Offering double features on their single screen since it first opened in the drive-in heyday in 1957. Their current ticket prices are $7 for anyone over age 12, free to those under age 12. Blue Moon Drive-In
A little over an hour and a half’s drive from the Iuka Drive-In you’ll find the Blue Moon Drive-In. This drive-in is located at 4609 Hwy. 43 in Guin AL (or locally known as Gu-Win), and is just across the Alabama state border in a small rural community between Guin and Winfield. The Blue Moon Drive-In is one of the few remaining drive-In theaters that have fully converted to digital, and is proud to display today’s most anticipated movies on their two screens using the Barco DP2K-32B digital projector. Summer Drive In
If you’re closer to the Memphis Tennessee area, a few hours north of the Blue Moon and Iuka theaters you can visit the Summer Drive In located at 5310 Summer Ave. Memphis, TN. This Malco Theater has been opened since drive-in golden times back in 1966 and is still very popular today.
