Commentary| The NFL Draft is coming up and the rumor mill will be running 24/7 on where the top college players will be spending their rookie years at. This is no doubt a good draft class, highly stacked with QB’s and some very good defensive players that you have been waiting to see play their first games on the big stage. Today, I’m going to make my predictions for the first 5 picks in the NFL Draft, going from the Texans to Oakland’s picks.
With only 2 wins this last season, Houston has a lot of work for this Off-Season, and this pick will show the future of this franchise. This team finished with the 7th ranked passing defense, but the 23rd ranked rushing defense. On offense, they had 15th ranked passing and 20th ranked rushing. So right now, they have rushing defense and offense as the weakest part of their game making me think that the highly predicted Manziel pick is not going to happen. With the amount of QB’s in the draft, there will be someone for them to pick in the 2nd round. And the first pick in the 2014 NFL Draft by the Houston Texans is Jadeveon Clowney, DE, from South Carolina. This is the player that they need to help their defense; if they let him go, he will not be there in the 2nd round, so they have to grab him now and care about there offense in the later rounds.
2. St. Louis
7 wins last year, and they are in what I think is becoming the most competitive division in the NFL. The only real good statistic with this team is being ranked 9th in rushing defense, other then that they have a lot of work to be done. Sam Bradford is a good QB he just needs help in doing his job, which is why this first pick will be on the offensive aspect of the game. Either another receiver to give Bradford another weapon or a offensive line man so he can actually throw the ball. And the Second pick in the 2014 NFL Draft by the St. Louis Rams is Greg Robinson, OT, from Auburn. This player is needed greatly so that this QB can show what we all know he is capable of.
4 wins in a very hard season where they ranked lower then 22nd in the 4 major stat lines. This team needs to make a perfect first round pick if they want to do any better this season. But with so many options where do they go. Do they go to a new QB, a running back, or work on the line man or a defensive star. Personally I’m stuck between a QB and a Line backer. And the 3rd pick in the 2014 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars is C.J. Mosley, LB, from Alabama. Yeah may seem a little high for him, but if he can produce what he did at Alabama then the weaker offensive weapons they get in the later rounds won’t matter because the other teams offense won’t be able to produce.
Also 4 wins but better stats then Jacksonville. There offense could be better but they do score a lot of points and in some close games they just needed that defensive edge so I’m going to go with another defensive player for this team. On defensive passing they actually rank 8th so I’m going to go with their line instead of the secondary. With Clowney gone though where do they go? The next highest ranked defensive line man…. And the 4th pick in the 2014 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns is Aaron Donald, DT, from Pittsburg. putting together a good last college season he is going to be a risk for so high, but its what they need.
Again 4 wins and only 1 of those coming in their division. This team has been so bad that they are probably the least talked about team in the league. Because of pure desperation they are able to pull out a few wins a year. This team needs new direction and a key player to give it to them. This is probably peoples 2nd pick for where Manziel will end up but that is just hard for me to come to. This team got Terrelle Pryor and that didn’t produce anything and because of that they just traded with Houston for Matt Schuabe, and signed free agent QB- Aaron Brooks, and don’t forget Matt McGloin who isn’t half bad. They are not going for a QB in my opinion from all these moves. But with this new QB direction before the draft they are going to want weapons so…. With the 5th pick in the 2014 NFL Draft the Oakland Raiders choose Sammy Watkins, WR, from Clemson. Remember this guy, how could you forget the amazing catches that this guy has made and will make in his pro days.
Well those are the top 5 picks in the 2014 NFL Draft–only 251 more to go.
