New Characters in Avengers Age of Ultron
Expectations are running high for the next Avengers movie The Age of Ultron. The next installment of the Avengers will include some new characters and some familiar characters from other Marvel movies. A closer look at casting lists reveals some of these new and familiar characters appearing in the Age of Ultron.
Familiar Supporting Characters
James Rhodes suited up with Iron Man starting in Iron Man 2 to battle Whiplash. Rhodes also included in Iron Man 3 and helped to stop the Mandarin. War Machine will be lending assistance to the Avengers in the Age of Ultron.
Sam Wilson (A.K.A. The Falcon) first appeared in the latest Marvel film Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Falcon joins forces with Captain America in The Winter Soldier to help defend SHIELD against Hydra.
Peggy Carter was the love interest for Steve Rogers in the first Captain America movie and appeared briefly in The Winter Soldier. Carter was one of the founding members of SHIELD. Rumors are that a second Marvel television series is in the planning stages surrounding Agent Carter.
Wanda Maximoff has the ability to throw hex bolts, hex spheres and alter reality. Her twin brother is another new character Pietro Maximoff (A.K.A. Quicksilver). We were given a brief glimpse of the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver in the short clip following the credits in The Winter Soldier.
Pietro Maximoff has the ability of super speed and runs at incredible speeds. We see just a short preview of these powers in the closing of The Winter Soldier. Quicksilver will be joining the Avengers to help stop Ultron.
Ultron is the ultimate intelligent robot. He has the ability to learn and adapt to environment. Ultron actually becomes more intelligent and more familiar with his enemies as time goes on. Ultron also has the ability to create new weapons and new abilities. This makes him one of the deadliest of all Marvel villains. Another key aspect of the Ultron character is that he never seems to be truly defeated and keeps coming back more powerful with each successive encounter. It could mean that we could see Ultron returning for multiple encounters with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
The Vision is an android creation of Ultron. The Vision has the ability to change his density at will. This means that Vision can allow objects to pass through him or can become so dense that he is harder than diamond. In the comics, the Vision later becomes a member of the Avengers and the husband of the Scarlet Witch.
Baron Wolfgang Von Strucker
Von Strucker is a leader within the ranks of Hydra. In the comics, Von Stucker, not the red Skull was the founder of the terrorist organization. It is somewhat unclear what role Von Strucker will play in the upcoming movie. However, it does seem that there will be a connection with Von Strucker and the Maximoff twins. Von Strucker was seen for the first time in The Winter Soldier observing the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver in the final clip embedded in the closing credits.
These are just a few of the characters appearing in the latest chapter in the Avengers saga. The entire team from the first movie is returning to help stop the threat of Ultron. Avengers: The Age of Ultron makes its way to theaters on May 1, 2015.
