Summer is almost here and the ants will be out in vast numbers soon. Trying to keep your house free of the little critters can be quite a challenge. Believe it or not, there are some very simple ways to control them and neither of them are harmful to the environment, children, or animals. Some of the most popular natural ways to get rid of ants are:
Many individuals have raved about the success of using coffee grounds. This method really does work, and it is one of the best methods to get rid of ants. Just place the coffee grounds around the foundation of your home and on ant hills. After applying the coffee grounds around your home, you will soon begin to notice that the ants are decreasing over time. Coffee grounds are useful because the ants loose their scent trails, and the young ants will have no food and starve.
Spread cornmeal in the area where ants are present. It is amazing that this ingredient is completely safe to humans, but ants can not tolerate it and die. Cornmeal does not work as fast as some of the other methods, but it is equally effective at killing ants over time.
Pepper is very effective in controlling ants. Mix a little cayenne pepper, black pepper, and a small amount of water in a bottle. Spray it on them and they will son disappear.
Ants do not do very well around lemon juice. They do not like it, and they will not stick around. Out of all the various natural methods, Lemon juice is the quickest way to get rid of ants.
Borax, Water, and Sugar
A paste of Borax, water, and sugar is good for killing off the ants that are already in your home. Make sure this concoction is not within the reach of your pets or children. Sugar ants are probably the most difficult to control, but the sugar will attract them and the Borax will kill them.
Vinegar & Water
By mopping your home floors with vinegar and water, you are less likely to see any ants in your home. Because of vinegar’s acidity, ants will normally try to avoid it. The best way to use it is to mix half vinegar and half water. You can also spray on the ant trails. This works really well for carpenter ants.
Keep your house clean
This is one of the most simple ways to control ants. Make sure there is no food or sweets lying around your home. Vacuum and/or mop regularly. Store food in the refrigerator or in a container that is not accessible to ants. If there is food lying around in the home, they are more likely to enter the home. Ants love dog food, so make sure to clean up after your dog.
