We’re leading more stressful lives than probably at any other time in human history and the pace of modern life is just part of that. Most people rarely take time out of their day to unwind and with the constant go-go-go of modern life it’s only going to be a matter of time before you develop at least a mild anxiety disorder. Anxiety disorders affect more than 40-million people living in the United States alone almost every single day. Some people will suffer from anxiety that’s so mild they can just brush it off and cope with it, where others will have several anxiety episodes in a single day and in many cases they simply stop being able to function as people. Having an anxiety disorder is hard to understand but easy to describe in a way – just imagine that you have absolutely no control over your thoughts or how your body is reacting to those thoughts and you’ll have it pretty much summed up right there.
You can go down the route of using antidepressants or benzodiazepines like Xanax or Valium but these come with their own set of side-effects and in some cases the risk of overdose or complications if they’re taken with alcohol. And today people are more interested in natural alternatives to dealing with their problems than taking medication so the same applies to people looking for a natural way to treat their anxiety problem.
We’re going to take a look at some of the more natural or alterative ways of dealing with any anxiety in your life.
Remove The Source This might sound like we’re stating the absolutely obvious here but if you are surrounded by a person, situation or job that is causing you this level of anxiety then you need to remove yourself from that situation. This probably won’t be easy but you will be tackling the source of your anxiety directly.
Meditate You don’t need to become a Zen master overnight but learning the basics of meditation and proper breathing can have amazing results in altering your physiological state – your brain chemistry changes and even the pattern of your brainwaves change when you’re in a meditative state. Check in your local newspaper or with friends for some local classes.
Cut Out Processed Food Our “modern” diets are full of foods that are soaked in preservatives and flavorings that means we’re all trying to digest and absorb the types of chemicals that were never meant to be in our bodies. Do yourself a favor and try living on a diet of fresh fruit, meat and vegetables (nothing tinned, packaged or prepared) for 2 weeks and see how you feel. You are going to just have your mind blown at how much healthier, relaxed and energetic you feel!
Essential Oils These work really well in a warm bath and can be a great way to slow your mind down and get into a relaxed state. It is very difficult to build up to a state of anxiety when you’re soaking in a warm bath and a few drops of pure rose essential oil.
The more time to relax and unwind you can build into each day the more proactive you’re being in preventing your anxiety disorder or anxiety attack. In fact it’s only when we learn to truly relax or minds and bodies that we get a chance to see just how irrational we can be at times.
