For better or worse our siblings hold a special place in our hearts. They have offered comfort, support, and an ear to listen throughout our childhood and are often overlooked as we go about our busy lives. Every year there are two days marked to celebrate this bond. April 10th is National Sibling Day and May 2nd is Brother and Sister Day.
Take the time to do something special for your sibling the day of your choice and use one of these ideas to show them your appreciation:
Go out together. You don’t have to plan an extravagant vacation to Hawaii together, just take some time for a sibling date. The options are endless and can work for any budget. These are just some of the ways you can spend time together:
Have a spa weekend
Hit up the bowling alley
Head to the park for a picnic
Go to the movies
Get some ice cream together
Find a small, meaningful gift. If you want to get your brother or sister a small present look for something that has a special meaning for the both of you. Maybe bake some homemade cookies using a special recipe or turn some old pictures into a collage, it doesn’t have to cost a ton of money to put a smile on their face.
Send a photo card. If distance keeps you apart make a postcard from a funny childhood picture and share your favorite memory with them or make a special poem about the things you love about them. You can also send a small flower delivery or gift.
Spread the love year round. Just because these are the official days to show your appreciation doesn’t mean that you can’t celebrate year round. Try to keep in touch with phone calls or email updates a few times a week and use good old fashioned snail mail once in a while to send a letter or some new family pictures.
