My Voice – Ambition?? Passion?? or Simply Confusion!!!
Well, amid the daily lectures and routine, traffic and gossip, lunch and snacks, movies and fun, friends and family……there are times when we simply reflect on ourselves and wonder…”what the hell am I doing here??” now if that’s exactly what you think…then read on but if you don’t……I would simply congratulate you, ask you to break out of the loop and move on!!
Do you remember those primary school days when people would ask “What’s your ambition??” and we would pretend a serious look on our face and said….the most common things obviously were “teacher” or “doctor”!! We probably said that because our parents thought them to be cool professions. Then there was a time when we forgot everything and did only what we liked. We found something which simply drove us off…be it singing, dancing, poetry, books, games, cricket…and we were so into it that we got up every day to do only that one thing with all zeal and enthusiasm. We knew we were good at it and the best part ..loved doing it!
Now the next part of our lives when we had to make choices and we were all so confused!! Finally all of us ended up doing what our parents, relatives and family thought was the best thing for us.
With all the hype to the concept of “following your destiny and pursuing what you love doing in life” by Robin Sharma, Jack Canfeild ,Paulo Echlo in their book series…we fail to take that step and find it so hard to put our hands down and say “this is what I want to do!!” to our loved ones. More to others than to ourselves, we end up doing things we don’t really like but pretend to do so, as we have no other option. The truth is that we don’t want to be judged the wrong way and want to be accepted in our own society! And thus the person’s individuality is dabbed.
Isen’t this actually the reason as to why we are running short of Mark Zuckerberg and Steve Jobs ?? People don’t look at the point the person’s trying to make but rather look down at him and say “YOU CAN’T MAKE IT!!” . And if you are someone who is spiritually inclined then even in the Holy scriptures, never has it been mentioned that we must do what we are not meant to do. It in fact guides us to take a call and pursue what we like. I understand that we are struck in a highly sophisticated society, but we must commit never to give up pursuing the passion we are meant to do.
To conclude with, I would say, let’s all make sure we have no regrets on our deathbed and we happily bid off saying “I really lived the life I wanted to live and not what others wanted me to live!!”
