When I turned 30, I thought, “This will be the year that I get my weight under control.” That was also the year I was diagnosed with a thyroid condition (yep, hypothyroid) and decided to get honest about and deal with my poor eating habits. My ever-increasing waistline began to weigh me down–and each year it got worse. I cannot begin to describe how awful I felt, mentally and physically. I am ashamed to say that I didn’t get serious about my weight at 35 or age 40. I began a workout regimen here and there with nominal success. I even worked the 1800 calorie diet a few times. Nothing seemed to work.
Now that 50 is ahead of me, I know that it is now or never. I may never wear a bikini but I would like to have a choice on what bathing suit to wear this summer. I’m so tired of swimming in a dress-style bathing suit with zero sex appeal. (I’m in my mid-forties-I’m not dead!) So after reading reviews and studying programs, I decided that Nutrisystem and a regular workout routine would be my best approach to losing weight. 16 pounds later, I am so glad I did! I have never, ever lost this much weight and I am thrilled that I tried it.
Like many others, I began the New Year with a new eating plan. I didn’t start my program until January 11th. It took about five days for my box of food to arrive and I also got a box of frozen items. I signed up with Planet Fitness and began working out at first, 30 minutes a day a few times a week. Now, I work out 45 minutes a day at least 5 times a week.
On Nutrisystem, I didn’t have to take a cooking course (I’m not the best cook) or buy a cookbook because NS provides me with breakfast, lunch, dinner and a snack. Along the way, I learned what foods I should be eating, like good proteins, vegetables and what I should be drinking like non-caffeinated drinks. Nutrisystem asked me to take a quick survey, this helped them determine what I should be eating. For me, that is 1500 to 1799 a day!
My starting weight was 209 (I know, right?) on January 11. Today, March 13, I have lost 16 pounds and I can’t be more thrilled. I don’t have body aches anymore, I can wear heels again! I can’t believe this is happening.
Was it easy? Heck no. Was it worth it? Heck yes! I have 35 more pounds to lose and I know it may take months, even a year but I am okay with that. Slow and steady wins the race and I plan on being a winner. I am ready to go swim suit shopping!
