I’m not going to lie, I might have a semi-problem. I am addicted to Pinterest. But then again, who isn’t? So when I attempted to make the children’s silky and stretchy playdough, I was disappointed that it didn’t turn out as I had hoped. It’s a very simple recipe but I must have done something wrong to make mine turn out sticky and very messy. Of course, my son loved it. I wasn’t too much of a fan of it. The ingredients consist of
- 1 cup of conditioner
- 2 cups of cornflour/cornstarch
- Glitter (optional)
That’s it. Only 2 items(3 if you count the glitter). So how could I make the mistake on messing it up? Well, I’m thinking I might have added too much conditioner to it because it came out too watery with a sticky feeling to it. So I decided next time to pay close attention to it and measure the ingredients better. Finally after the second time, I got it right! Not only was I happy, but my son seemed to enjoy the second batch better than the first one. I had no trouble getting it out of his hair, washed out of his clothes without sticking together. I have a friend who has tried the same recipe and has failed too. But she didn’t have the right flour or cornstarch, making it too thick. I would advise that when attempting this recipe, to make sure you pay close attention to your measurements and ingredients. This isn’t a too hard recipe to try, but if you aren’t careful with it, you can very well slip up and change the whole project up. Now the playdough is something my son asks for often now. Of course, with any activity, supervision is required. Now to store this dough, I put it into an air tight container and store it in my pantry closet. It can be stored for weeks and or months. Ours lasted for a good 3 months before I had to finally retire it and create a new batch. This playdough is recommended for children 2 and older. My son was 1 when we tried it out on him and after a few times of telling him no, he got the idea of not putting it into his mouth.
This is a fun project for kids to do with their parents and it gives them something to do afterwards. Easy cleanup afterwards and no baking involved!
So have fun with this recipe and make sure to pay attention to it! Don’t make the mistake that me or my friend made when attempting this recipe!
