I couldn’t stop eating. I was totally addicted. Having tried every diet imaginable and seeing little results, I had nearly given up. I seemed to only gain more weight and have more hunger. Not surprisingly, I wasn’t very hopeful when my friend told me about her new diet, but I decided to do a little research.
Internet searches quickly told me that the juice fasting she described is actually quite healthy. LivingGreenMag.com explains it as a way to cleanse the body, and reset physiological processes. It rids the body of pollutants and toxins, and frees us from the foods we normally eat that are packed with preservatives. Because of this information, I decided to give it a chance.
Before my juice fast, I struggled with some excess weight. I worked out 2-3 times per week, but always felt tired. My diet largely consisted of sugar and carbohydrates.
I started my juice fast by picking out three recipes to try. I ended up buying many ingredients from the store including kale, celery, lemon, apples, oranges, and spinach. I quickly went to work with my juicer, and stored several bottles of juice in my fridge. In the following days every time I felt even a tiny bit hungry I drank my juice.
I was surprised to find I wasn’t low in energy. The juice even tasted pretty good! I had to fight off cravings for junk food, but only for the first two days. On day three I had all ready lost 4 pounds! The weight loss kept me going. After a week of juicing I felt less tired, and the food cravings had totally diminished. I was 10 pounds lighter.
After my strict juice-only week, I added other foods back in to my diet in small amounts. I ate mostly egg whites, fish, chicken, beans, and brown rice. My food intake had greatly decreased, but the amount of nutrition I was receiving was far greater than before I had started juicing.
A month later, I realized I was 30 pounds lighter! I had reset my eating habits, which felt like nothing short of a miracle. I maintained this weight loss over several more months, with little effort. The increase in energy I felt along with my newly found confidence inspired me to start working out every day.
The juice fast was a wake up call. It turned me on to a much healthier lifestyle in general. I started to exercise, and switched from eating excess carbohydrates and sugar to consuming more proteins, fruits, and vegetables. It made me want to live a green, healthy lifestyle.
