Upon retiring from the military and not having the physical fitness routine that I was used to, I started gaining weight without even realizing it. On an early spring day I was thinking about what I was going to do when it warmed enough for outdoors fun. That is when I thought about how I kept my weight down and had energy to keep my military routine going. I thought about grapefruit and popcorn.
Grapefruit is just right to split one in half in order to eat half for breakfast and the other half for lunch. In fact, it is very easy to do and it starts with peeling the fruit. The way I do it, in order to have a juicy fruit, is by squeezing the grapefruit. All that is necessary is to put the grapefruit on a table, press down on it with the heel of your hand (or both hands) and roll back and forth with a lot of pressure. Pressure and rolling the grapefruit will evenly juice up the inside of the fruit but I won’t break it open or make it mushy.
Next, the grapefruit must be peeled. Use the tip of a knife (pocket, butter or steak) by putting your thumb and forefinger about a quarter of an inch from the tip of the knife. About an inch and a half from the top and the on the bottom, cut down into the rind and make a circle. When that is finished, make a line down from one circle to the other. Do this several times, around the grapefruit, until you have several lines.
Now you start to take the pieces of rind away from the fruit. After cleaning up the grapefruit, carefully break it into equal halves. Keep one half in the refrigerator and take the other half for breakfast. Take it apart, like orange pieces, and eat each piece for breakfast, skin and all. For lunch, do the same thing and add a very small bag of popcorn, no butter and no salt. Don’t eat anything else during the day.
I had my normal dinner but I never overate, that is important if you want to lose weight. I lost a lot of weight in a short amount of time. However, a word of caution for those who are on medication for blood pressure or diabetes, grapefruit is not for you. Grapefruit counteracts the medication. Stay away from the grapefruit. For those of you that can eat grapefruit, this is a great, sure fire way to quickly lose weight as long as you stay with it. It will be hard for a few days but your body will get used to get and you will feel great while on the diet. Have a great time with the diet and good luck.
