My Facebook chat is not working in Windows 8.1. This is a problem that many people find that they have after they either upgrade to Windows 8.1 or purchase a new computer that has Windows 8.1 already installed on it. The main problem that many people have is that Facebook chat isn’t responsive in Internet Explorer 11. If you use another browser such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox then it will work as intended. Even though installing a different browser is a solution to the problem, not ever one wants to do this just to use the chat features on Facebook.
So what do you do? You won’t be able to roll back to an older version of Internet Explorer because Windows 8.1 come with Internet Explorer 11 preinstalled. This is very similar to the original version of Windows 8 which came with Internet Explorer 10 preinstalled. You will not be able to install an earlier version than the version that it came with. However, you still a few routes to take. If you want to use Internet Explorer 11 with the Facebook chat features then you will need to learn how to use the developer’s tools that are built into Internet Explorer 11. It may sound hard from the name of it but it is as easy as press the Function 12 key or F12 on your keyboard. This will bring up a menu that spans the bottom of the page. Once you see the options that come up, it will because self-explanatory to what you have to do next. It is best to set “Document Mode” and “User Agent String” to the same setting. That means if you choose “10” for Document Mode then you should also choose “Internet Explorer 10” for the user agent string. You won’t see 11. Instead, version 11 is represented by the word “Edge”.
However, the most compatible version of Internet Explorer is generally still Internet Explorer 9. So, if your Facebook chat is not working in Windows 8.1 with Internet Explorer 10 mode then you will definitely be able to use it with Internet Explorer 9 mode.
