You have been by my side my whole life, to pick me up when I’ve fallen and to give me a swift kick in the pants when needed. You have taught me right from wrong and called me out when I’ve been wrong. We haven’t always been on the same page for what we both wanted for me but you allowed me to make my own decisions.
We are so alike you and I. We are both extremely hard headed and beyond stubborn and it’s hard for us to let go of things once we set our minds to that being what we want or need in our lives. We are so tender hearted even though we put up a wall to protect our hearts, but when we do allow others in we love completely. We don’t easily trust and we have to be shown that we can trust. Just like Grandma, we get it all from her, I so miss her.
You still pick me up and dust me off when I fall; you’re always there when I cry. You help me see my way through all the craziness that is life. We have shared so much from tears and laughter to heartache’s and hopes for the future. I can’t ever explain how thankful I am that God gave me you as a dad. You truly are my blessing and I’m glad I can call you DAD.
You’re not just my daddy but over the years, you have become my best friend. I cherish our talks and the great memories we have with each other. Thank you for always being here for me even when all you could do was listen. Your advice is priceless to me and although I haven’t always taken it I appreciate it. I love you Dad.
To fathers everywhere, take time to listen to your child’s words. What they may be saying is that I love, I miss and I need you. Sometimes a child’s words don’t come through clearly. They have not lived the life you have and lack the experience to understand all the changes and how to clearly say what you want, need and desire. They don’t always know how to tell you that today more than ever they need your presence more than anything else.
Love them, before the time is up; show them a better path to the riches of the future.
To my very own Dad, thank you for being all these and more. You have taught me the values of life, love and honor.
